Palms

Temperature: Average warmth – minimum 50 F in winter. Winter night temperature should not exceed 60 F for Parlour and Kentia Palms.

Light: A few delicate Palms revel in sunshine, but the popular varieties should be kept in partial shade. Both Parlour and Kentia Palms can thrive in low light conditions.

Water: The first need is for good drainage – all Palms detest stagnant water at the roots. During winter keep the soil slightly moist. Water more liberally in spring and summer.

Air Humidity: Mist leaves if room is heated. Occasionally sponge mature leaves. Avoid draughts.

Repotting: Only repot when the plant is thoroughly pot-bound, as Palms dislike disturbance. Compact the compost around the soil ball.

Propagation: From seed. A temperature of 80 F is required, so propagation is difficult.
